The Beach

I've been looking forward to this beach trip for so long!! A week...on the beach with my family. Heaven.

I haven't seen the sunrise in years...especially at the beach. Last night our power went out and came back on around sunrise...so I went onto the balcony and watched it. Alone. Everyone was still asleep; all was quiet and I was able to watch the deep blues give way to brilliant pinks. Such a treat ;)

New Orleans Getaway

Andrew and I always try and get to NOLA when we're here in Louisiana....we spent our honeymoon here and it was also the place we first fell in love ;). Awwwww, right? We got away for the night on Thursday - had lots to drink, eat and I was able to hook up with old friends too.

Even though Robert and I were both at LSU at the same time, I didn't meet him till I went to LA to visit friends and he happened to be there too. That was in '92....

Met Sharon my first semester at LSU....we were roommates for awhile and even lived in Hawaii together at one point. Been through a lot with her ;)

There is just something about this place....I feel more like me when I'm here than any other place on the planet.

Fireworks!!

Perk of country living = fireworks in the back yard....on a random Thursday night. :)

Louisiana here we come

Made it to Louisiana (home for me) on Tuesday - stopped in Houston for the night at Aunt Eileen & Uncle Mike's before getting here. So good to see them ;)

My Dad took us out on his boat on Wednesday on a little swamp tour - we did see some gators! Mostly baby ones but a couple of 4 footers too. It had been years since I had been out there....felt good. Andrew turned to me at one point and said, "I can't believe you actually grew up here". Lol!

Middle of Nowhere, TX

Left Midland today and headed to Houston...Andrew's father isn't in good health, so it's bittersweet leaving....

Last night we looked through old photos and found treasures in 8 track cassettes. And vinyl! So many amazing albums...my new goal is to find a working turntable. I hate that my kids have never heard what vinyl sounds like - that gritty "true" sound. Nothing like it.

Good stuff..

Today we got to drive throughout this:

For hours and hours.....omg!!!!!

Yes, we really were listening to Last of the Mohicans soundtrack.

Last night we had a sunset nerf war :)

Finally made it to Houston - Aunt Eileen & Uncle Mike's is an awesome oasis in the middle of the Texas wasteland ;). Soooooooo happy to finally have made it here!
Goodnight!

Shoulda Been A Cowboy

It's a running joke with Andrew and I that he should have been a country music singer...and if you've ever heard him sing and play guitar, then you would know what we mean. Just look at him in that hat! Lol

But alas, that's not our life (for the record, we don't even listen to country music). BUT when you're in TX, you kinda have to.

So here we are in Midland...a place that looks exactly like it did in 1986 I'm sure. Here till tomorrow and then we're off to Houston.

OH! I may or may not have just bought these....

Car Rave

12 hours in a car will make you crazy! Shocking,I know. In all seriousness, the kids are actually really great on these long drives. We all still like being around each other ;). About 2 hours outside of Las Cruces, we found a really fun dance radio station and broke out the Tron light discs, iPods and glow sticks! Hey, it kept us awake!

Texas - Day 2

Good morning from Texas!!

Forrest Gump & Life Lessons

We decided to let the kids watch Forrest Gump today....thought it would be fun for the road trip. That's the cool part about the kids getting older - finally being able to share OUR favorites with them. When we watched The Goonies with them, I was literally giddy.

But Forrest Gump - there's some BIG life lessons in this one....and it sparked some great car conversation; everything from The Vietnam War (why it started), communism, hippies, drugs, child abuse, making better choices, who shot JFK and why, and the list goes on and on... It's sort of amazing how much history Andrew and I actually remembered (I didn't have to open Google once!) and it was such a great opportunity to connect with the kids. That's something I haven't been able to do for awhile, since I've been so busy with work.

All in all, a good first day. we are still on the road - almost to Phoenix...gonna make it to Las Cruces to sleep tonight, and then off to Midland tomorrow. Best part of the trip so far is Andrew dropping down and doing push ups at every place we stop - In and Out parking lot, Starbucks parking lot, side of the road in the middle of the desert...he's committed! Ahhh, the life of an actor. *slurps on coke zero, washes down cake pop from Starbucks*.

Glad it's not me!!!

Summer Road Trip 2011

Well, we're at it again.  Not quite as adventurous as before, but we're getting in the minivan and heading outta here on July 15th.  We're making a stop in TX to see my father in law, and then we're off to my Mom's in Louisiana, then heading to Orange Beach for a whole week of relaxation!  :)

I'll be posting silliness as it ensues, so you're welcome to come along for the crazy ride if ya wanna!
